Elizabeth started her midwifery journey in 1989 when she gave birth to her son John at home, with the first licensed midwife in the state of Arizona. Liz went on later that same year to attend home births as both a birth assistant and student. She trained with four different midwives while studying through a distance program with The National College of Midwifery in Taos, New Mexico.
Elizabeth became licensed in the state of Arizona in 1994 and later went on to become certified by the North American Registry of Midwives (NARM) as a CPM. Elizabeth then decided to further her career by doing an online program with The National Midwifery Institute, to be able to obtain a License under the California Medical Board, she also has a background in herbal studies & Flower essence, which she incorporates into her Midwifery practice.
Elizabeth has extensive knowledge in midwifery, she has practiced in both home birth as well as birth center settings, she has even had the privilege of working overseas in a high-volume birth center on several occasions. However, she is busy nurturing and building her home birth practice, which is what her heart desires. She is a mother of 9, and a grandmother of 3. She is an advocate for women's health and has volunteered time with underground missions, of human sex trafficking by getting the women off the street!
Respect for women and their individualized beliefs and choices As a midwife, I deeply believe in the normal physiological process of pregnancy, labor, and birth. We believe that each woman and every birth are as unique as each and every baby born. We feel that it is of the utmost importance, to build a relationship with the mother and or the whole family, placing emphasis on a more empowering role for the mother and offering a unique and peaceful love and support throughout her birth journey.
We encourage the mother to take an active role in decision making throughout her pregnancy, as well as offering her a more holistic approach to her maternity care.
Having been involved in the midwifery community for over 30 years, Elizabeth knows the importance of treating each client with an individualized care plan. She practices the midwifery model of care, taking blood pressure, weight, and urine, assessing fundal height measurements as well as fetal growth, heart rate, activity, and presentation. Elizabeth spends on average 45 minutes to an hour at each visit, placing emphasis on optimal nutrition, emotional well-being, as well as including any family members that so desire to be a part of this blessed event. Elizabeth wishes to help you have the best prenatal and birth experience. and may even suggest holding prenatal down by the swimming pool, or outside some days, bringing in the warm sun, weather permitting,
Elizabeth has been attending home births since 1989, and feels that this as well as midwifery care, are viable options for low risk women.
